2010 PhD Scholarship - La Trobe University
Deadline for applications: 30 November 2009

In 2007, 2008 and 2009 the Innovative Universities European Union (IUEU) Centre offered scholarships for research projects leading to a PhD, based at La Trobe University in Melbourne and Macquarie University in Sydney. The first successful candidates commenced their research in 2007. A scholarship is now offered for 2010, to be located at La Trobe University. Applicants must apply by 30 November 2009.
The scholarship is available for a project focused on the European Union, the integration process in general, or related areas of research. The project may be based in Politics, International Relations, European languages and cultural studies, History, Law, Economics or Commerce, or another relevant area. The scholarship is open to applicants either from within Australia or internationally..

- Damir Mitric, La Trobe University, Thesis topic: Being Tolerated: The Bosnian Refugee Experience in Germany
- Radhika Mittal, Macquarie University.
- Aurélien Mondon, La Trobe University, Thesis topic: Analysis of extreme right movements in France and Australia, and their influence on moderate political parties and on politics in general.
- Robert Podbereski, La Trobe University, Thesis topic: Social Secession: The Collapse of Soviet Totalitarianism in Poland and Czechoslovakia, 1976-1989.
- Linda Silaghi, Macquarie University, Thesis topic: A comparative excursion into the concept of citizenship which will map the affective reactions of immigrants as they attempt to acquire citizenship, focusing on Australia, Italy, the Netherlands and Hungary.
- Andrea Stylianou, Macquarie University, Thesis topic: An investigation into the Missing Persons of Cyprus and treatment of POWs from the Turkish invasion of 1974.
2010 Postgraduate Research Scholarship
The IUEU Centre offers scholarships for research projects leading to a Ph.D. One scholarship in 2010 will be offered at La Trobe University in Melbourne.
The scholarship, of three and a half years duration, is available for projects focused on the European Union, the integration process in general, or related areas of research. It may be based in Politics, International Relations, History, Law, European languages and culture, Economics, Commerce or another discipline appropriate to the particular proposal. While applications are welcome in any of the above fields, applications are especially invited from those planning to work in relation to post-Communist societies in Central and Eastern Europe.
Stipends and other benefits associated with the scholarship will be in line with the normal arrangements for postgraduate scholarships at La Trobe University.
The IUEU Centre is based on a consortium of seven universities, with La Trobe University as the lead institution and Flinders, Griffith, Macquarie, Murdoch and Newcastle as partner universities.
While the principal supervisor will be located at La Trobe University, where appropriate the Centre may consider co-supervision from another university in the consortium where an appropriate expert is located. Applicants should provide the names (if any) of potential co-supervisors at any of the partner universities.
The selection process for these scholarships will be competitive and eligibility requires completion of an Honours degree or equivalent at First Class level. The scholarships are open to applicants either from within Australia or internationally. For international students evidence of English language proficiency is required.
Closing date for applications is 30 November 2009.
