On Monday, 11 December 2006 the IUEU Centre rooms at Macquarie University (Room 323, Building W6A) were launched by the EU Ambassador to Australia His Excellency Mr Bruno Julien, at a function hosted by the Dean of Humanities, Professor Christina Slade.
In attendance at the function were representatives from the member universities: Professor David de Vaus, Dr Stefan Auer, Dr Philip Bull and IUEU Ms Margaret Ingate (La Trobe), Professor Faith Trent and Dr Richard DeAngelis (Flinders), Professor Kevin McKonkey and Dr Troy Duncan (Newcastle), Professor Brian De Garis and Dr Andrew Webster (Murdoch), Mr Peter McCarthy (Macquarie). Other guests included Mr Luc Vandebon, European Commission, Brussels, Mrs Lynne Hunter from the European Delegation to Australia, Mrs Lesley Matthews, CEO, European-Australian Business Council, Professor Michel Thibier, Embassy of France, and academic staff from Macquarie University.
Mr Julien announced the Macquarie PhD scholarship commencing in 2007 was awarded to Jane Hanley. This is the first of three annual scholarships to be awarded by Macquarie. La Trobe is also offering three, with the first to be announced shortly.
